Project: Examining Changes in the Classification of Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths and SIDS in Michigan: Have We Solved the Mystery of SIDS?

Description: In the years 1999 to 2004, infant deaths attributed to SIDS decreased almost 70%. However, the overall postneonatal death rate remained steady during the study period. The sharp decline could be the result of a diagnostic shift. The purpose of the study is to further understand the growing disparity between declining SIDS cases without a corresponding decline in postneonatal deaths in Michigan.
