Rest: Pain or Pleasure

Resting Allow Yourself a Day of Rest

Today is a rest day for me. I will admit that I am not fond of my rest days. In fact, it creates mental anguish for me — not constantly, but a bit heavy in the beginning of the day and bits and pieces of this anguish slip in throughout the day. I fight with myself — finally realizing that I could actually enjoy the day and know that my workouts later in the week will yield excellent results.

To get stronger, we build up, but then we have to sit back and allow our bodies to rebuild from all the breakdown we have caused. That is one reason this is important. The other; however, is to prevent injury. So I ask myself if I would rather have one day off and amazing workouts that help me get stronger and be a better athlete, or would I rather have 8-12 weeks off due to an injury?

It is then, that I realize the peace my body and mind long for and I enjoy my day.

A better athlete does not come from running as hard as you can every day, but rather from knowing how to manage it and sticking to the plan.

Don't forget to rest.

Find Your Groove (And Decision To Exercise)

Start a Routine and Stick to It! Start a Routine and Stick to It!

The hardest part about exercise is getting started. That is normal because our bodies are not used to it and our minds are not used to it either. So, at first, it will feel like so much effort to do even 5 minutes of work. But I can guarantee that if you commit — truly commit — to 3 times a week (to start) and do that for one month, you will find yourself craving it. Check out this article for a little inspiration. Don't worry: you are normal to NOT want to exercise, but once you feel it, you will love it (and it will become your NEW normal). It just takes a little time to get there and a commitment from you!

Get Back At It! Get Back At It!

Happy New Year! Hope you have been able to keep up with your fitness over the holidays. If not, that's ok. You just get right back on it. I always suggest picking a day to start. So if Monday's are your days (they are my days for starting new things) then make it Monday. The point is to make up your mind, decide, commit then DO. Do not allow anything to stop you. This is your decision.

Today starts the 2012 London Olympics. This is a showing of some of the most amazing strength — both mental and physical, that represents our world athletes. I love watching the Olympics because I get inspired by the evidence of hard work that each individual has put towards their passion.
