A New Look

The CJ Foundation is proud to unveil our new logo and announce that moving forward the Foundation will be phasing out the use of SIDS as part of our name.

We are making these changes to reflect two realities: The first, use of the term SIDS as a cause of death is sunsetting – continuing to use a term that is losing relevance within the medical community and is possibly confusing to the public we are seeking to serve, is no longer tenable. While the CJ Foundation is and has been serving the needs of any family who experiences a sudden, unexpected death of an infant or child, we don't want our name to be a barrier of any kind. And second, an organization's name should reflect the overall scope of its work. We want our name to be inclusive of our SUDC (Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood) Program and our significant efforts to promote safe sleep to reduce the risk of not just SIDS, but also ASSB (Accidental Suffocation or Strangulation in Bed).

We Are More Than SIDS

We are more than SIDS. This is at the heart of our logo change and our phasing out of SIDS as part of our name. The CJ Foundation wants to be defined by our work, but also our hopes and dreams not only that all babies will live and grow, but that the families they leave behind will flourish and find peace and new meaning in their lives. The CJ Foundation is dedicated to helping families through the devastation of their loss to come out on the other side — forever changed, never forgetting, but moving forward. We love when families tell us, "With the CJ Foundation we get to be a part of something bigger — one family among many who share a bond that will never be broken."

We are more than SIDS — we are also SUID, SID, SUD, Undetermined and the many other designations that are now used instead of SIDS as causes of death on babies' deaths certificates.

We are also SUDC, Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. The SUDC Program was created to be an international centralized resource for those affected by a sudden unexpected death in childhood, whose cause is left undetermined, unclear or unexplained. It is the only program worldwide devoted solely to the needs of families and professionals touched by unexplained death in childhood.

And we are Safe Sleep for infants. Our safe sleep materials are used by thousands of childcare facilities, hospitals, health departments, and social service agencies in the United States. Our grants program has provided millions of dollars to organizations across the country to implement safe sleep programs in their communities. Safe sleep for infants reduces the risk of SIDS and prevents accidental suffocation or strangulation in bed (ASSB).

The new logo and our phasing out of the term SIDS is an important milestone in the Foundation's history and in the evolution of our understanding of the nature of SIDS.

As the CJ Foundation looks toward our 20th anniversary in 2014, we want our name and logo to reflect our hopes and dreams for a future where SIDS and sleep related deaths are eliminated and all babies live and grow.
